The School of Engineering and Information Technology (SEIT) is one of four Schools of the University of New South Wales located at the Australian Defence Force Academy campus in Canberra. Research is a key focus for the School, and inspires our approach to teaching and other activities. Our research covers a diverse range of topics in information technology and electrical engineering. These include quantum electronics, control theory and control applications, complex adaptive systems, underwater networking, operations research and optimisation, high frequency engineering, digital image coding and many others.

In 2008, the number of PhD students in the School continued to grow, demonstrating the commitment of the School to research training. We are keen for more students to join our dynamic research team. To support this we provide a wide range of financial support to quality research students.

For more information on UNSW@ADFA scholarships visit: www.unsw.adfa.edu.au/units/research/, or contact the SEIT Office on (02) 626 88580 for information on School scholarships.

The School attracted research funding from a variety of sources in 2008 including from the Australian Research Council Discovery Projects, Centres of Excellence, Research Networks and Linkage schemes. We also received financial support from a number of other sources including the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, the Department of Defence, and the University of New South Wales.

This research report summarises the important research achievements of members of the School in 2008.
